Dr. J K A Jameel qualified from Stanley Medical College, Chennai, India in 1998. He moved to the UK in 1999 and underwent postgraduate surgical training (2 years of Basic Surgical training, 2 years of Surgical Oncology research and 6 years of Higher Surgical training sub-specialising in Gastrointestinal, Minimal Access and Bariatric Surgery). His Higher Surgical training included a variety of complex Upper Gastrointestinal, Bariatric and Colorectal Surgical operations with special emphasis on Minimal Access Surgery, in some of the best institutions in UK. He successfully obtained the CCT (certificate of completion of UK training) in Feb 2011 and practised as a Consultant Surgeon in the National Health Service, England.
Dr. Jameel has had the privilege of working under nationally and internationally renowned Surgical Gastroenterologists, Laparoscopic and Bariatric surgeons. He holds Fellowships from Royal College of Surgeons of England, Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. He also holds Fellowship in Gastrointestinal and Bariatric Surgery from the International College of Surgeons, Chicago, USA. He has also obtained a Masters (MSc) from the University of Hull, East Yorkshire. Dr. Jameel has also undergone Robotic Surgical training at the University College Hospitals, London.
As a Consultant Surgeon in UK, he has trained a number of surgeons on the Yorkshire basic and higher surgical training programme. Dr. Jameel has presented in a number of surgical conferences in Europe, USA and Asia. He also has to his credit a number of peer-reviewed articles published in international journals.
After nearly 14 years in UK, Dr. Jameel returned to his native city of Chennai in India in September 2013 and is currently practising as a Consultant Surgical Gastroenterologist, Laparoscopic and Bariatric Surgeon at Apollo Hospitals, Chennai. He continues with his teaching commitments even after returning to India and is currently a teaching faculty at Apollo Hospitals for DNB – Surgical Gastroenterology and FNB – Minimal Access Surgery post-graduates of the National Board of Examinations. He is also currently an examiner for the Intercollegiate MRCS exams conducted by the Royal College Of Surgeons in India and other overseas centres.
